Angie Martinez & Rutgers Newark Scholars Bring Light to Puerto Rico In New Documentary

Spring break for most young adults means round-the-clock parties or a beach-y getaway. Several International Leadership Exchange Global scholars from Rutgers University Newark, however, deviated from the norm and chose to spend their time doing good alongside Angie Martinez and TIDAL. In the new Be The Light documentary, the crew of students brought We Share solar suitcases to schools and youth centers needed most in Puerto Rico post-hurricane Maria.

“It’s been about four years since my last trip to Puerto Rico and the truth is, usually when I come, I’m visiting friends or family or kind of visiting the same places that I always go to. This is the first time that I’m getting to travel out to some of these other towns, and it’s definitely my first time traveling to Vieques,” says Angie Martinez in the documentary.

“There’s almost like a bittersweet feeling that we’re all kind of sharing as we head to Vieques because we’re here with good intentions to try to help even in the smallest way but these people have been the worst times. They have spent months in the dark, no electricity, no water, not to mention, there is no hospital.”

Even though the media attention has faded away, allow TIDAL’s documentary to shed light on the current situation in Puerto Rico and infuse hope into the youth that every bit of help can make a difference in the world.
