Check Out ANMLPLNET’s ‘Fall Asleep’ Exclusively on TIDAL

Leah Wellbaum of Slothrust (along with¬†Mickey Vershbow) has a new project and, quite fittingly, its name also has to do with beasts: ANMLPLNET. Fill in the missing vowels as you please. TIDAL has the exclusive premiere of their new album, Fall Asleep, today — courtesy of Ba Da Bing Records.

Although busy and successful musicians in their own right — Slothrust has three fabulous records under its belt and Vershbow plays with a passel of bands and teaches drum lessons — the pair still apparently had time to pump out six fuzzed out, strange-lovely tracks. All this from different coasts; Vershbow lives in Brooklyn and Wellbaum in L.A. According to a release, the duo has a few rules for writing together:

1. Always drink absinthe while rehearsing.
2. Write lyrics that are antonymic translations, meaning nouns, adjectives and verbs were replaced with their antonyms.
3. Play songs straight through as one giant piece, no breaks.
4. Accept mostly unusual gigs, like their performances at a Dorchester rave and in a wooden shack on the tiny Star Island off New Hampshire.

The result is a truly gorgeous album. There’s the incantation-like “20,000 Leagues Under the Serpent,” the lilting and lovely “I Was Fucked By a Cloud” (I promise, it’s pretty, despite the name) and, surprisingly, a quiet, strange cover of Lana Del Rey’s “Ride.”

“Fall Asleep¬†was a lot of fun to create,” Wellbaum says of the album. “It is the manifestation of a long-time vision that embraces the intersection of songwriting and improv. We hope its surreal energy suits you well and that it transports you to somewhere you aren’t too afraid to go.”

Check out the album now before its official 4/20 release.
