Harkin Premieres “Mist on Glass” Exclusively on TIDAL
You may have seen Katie Harkin on stage with the likes of Sleater-Kinney and Courtney Barnett, but nowadays she’s striking out on her own under the name Harkin. Today, we have the exclusive premiere of her latest song, “Mist on Glass,” a tight, moody track that will appeal to fans of Harkin’s associated acts.
And, as a bonus, she’s also out with a cover of the Comsat Angels’ “Independence Day,” a collaboration with Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak, Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint and Hayden Thorpe of Wild Beasts.
Harkin first cut her teeth in the Leeds indie rock band, Sky Larkin, which formed in 2005. In 2014, the band members went their own ways, with Harkin joining Sleater-Kinney as a touring member when the reunited band hit the road in 2015. She has since collaborated and toured with Waxahatchee, Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett (on their 2017 collaborative record Lotta Sea Lice) and with Barnett on her 2018 album Tell Me How You Really Feel.
Now, Harkin is prepping her own solo debut, and “Mist on Glass” is just the first taste. She tells TIDAL: ”I wrote ‘Mist On Glass’ between borrowed rooms on tour and my cottage among the howling moors of The Peak District National Park, searching for a sound that combined the eeriness of the English countryside with the pace of the mechanized world. ‘Mist On Glass’ confronts identity, conflict and self determination.”
