Jack White & The Electric Mayhem: “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life”

Jack White has worn many hats: singer, songwriter, musician, producer, actor, record executive, preservationist, philanthropist and now Cupid.

Last night, on the season finale of ABC’s The Muppets, White valiantly attempted to mend the recently severed romance between Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. After Kermit explains to his friend Jack that Stevie Wonder’s “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” is his and Miss Piggy’s song, the rocker takes it upon himself to perform the tune on Piggy’s talk show.

Backed by legendary Muppets house band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, White begins his version of the Talking Book track with a mischievous organ-driven intro (evocative of his Blunderbuss opener “Missing Pieces”) before launching into a more groovy rendition faithful to his fellow Detroit native’s timeless original.

You’ll have to watch the episode yourself to see how White’s Cupid attempt works, but you can hear the song right now on TIDAL. And for the vinyl freaks, Third Man Records is also releasing the song as a 7-inch single, currently available for pre-order at the Third Man Store.
