TIDAL Rising Artist Of The Week: Harlem Rapper Melii Is More Than Viral Hype

Some would call Melii an overnight sensation. After all, she’s arguably the most exciting thing out of New York City this past summer. Truth is, though, the twentysomething recording artist is hardly today’s prepackaged-for-mainstream rapper. Melii, born to Dominican parents and raised in Harlem, dropped out of high school to pursue music full-time.

TIDAL Rising Artist of the Week, Melii’s musical ascent is the result of a catalogue of viral video hits, including her wicked cover of Cardi B’s 2017 summer darling “Bodak Yellow,”  which garnered close to two million YouTube views. “Ballin,” which can be said served as a precursor to Melii’s breakout hit “Icey,” is now over 400,000 in views. Both songs center Melii’s insanely impressive lyrical and vocal range, with the latter boasting her seamless Spanish-language braggadocio.

One of her latest offerings, “La Envidia Mata,“ further displays her Caribbean disposition and drives home her gift for ping-ponging effortlessly between English and Spanish rhymes. See a specially-curated playlist by Melii herself (below) and listen to her brand new single, “Como Si Na,” a catchy, flirty number that continues to exhibit her matchless Spanish-spoken raps.
