Sløtface: What Are You Listening To?
Norwegian pop-punk band Sløtface is this week’s TIDAL Rising artist. Earlier, we met the band via a champagne-filled Q&A, now get to know their musical tastes in the playlist below created by lead singer Haley Shea and bassist Lasse Lokøy.
* * *
Pinegrove, “Old Friends”
Haley: Pinegrove has been my band this summer. Been listening to Cardinal on repeat. Says a lot about summer weather in Bergen, Norway.
Lorde, “The Louvre”
Haley: I have been waiting for this new Lorde record for what feels like a really long time. So happy it’s wonderful. Love the breaks in this song especially.
Sylan Esso, “Radio”
Haley: Another album I’ve been listening to over and over. This song has amazing lyrics for days when I’m feeling cynical about the music biz.
Husky Loops, “Tempo”
Haley: Best new band we saw at The Great Escape this year, and now they’re touring with Placebo this fall. Expecting great things; love their use of sampling.
Marika Hackman, “Boyfriend”
Haley: Marika Hackman is an incredible lyricist. Love the way she fucks with the male perspective and gender in this song. Also her riffs give me chills. Cashmere Cat, “Victoria’s Veil”
Cashmere Cat, “Victoria’s Veil”
Lasse: Although I love Cashmere cat’s debut record I still think some of the first instrumental tracks he released on his first EPs are even cooler. I think ‘Victoria’s Veil’ (the only instrumental track on the album) stands out and represents ‘the old Cashmere Cat’ that I love.
Mikhael Paskalev, “Shotgun”
Lasse: I think this is Paskalev’s best song ever. It’s just super cool.
Vince Staples, “Love Can Be…”
Lasse: I was expecting more trap on Vince’s new record, but it’s so groovy, and makes me want to go clubbing. I think the production all over the record is super clever and has a very nice lo-fi aesthetic to it.
Harry Styles, “Carolina”
Lasse: I think everyone was surprised when Harry released ‘Sign of the Times.’ But this song surprised me even more. What a track! (And album!!)
Kendrick Lamar, “XXX.”
Lasse: I think DAMN is really great, especially lyrically. This track is one of the many songs on the record where I get chills. All the different parts work so well with the story.
