Striking Gold with Valentino Khan

Striking Gold with Valentino Khan

Following the release of his new single “Gold,” featuring Kingston, Jamaica’s legendary Sean Paul released on OWSLA last month, Valentino Khan spoke with TIDAL about the collaboration and the finished product.

Over the past five years, Khan has proven his worth as an in-demand and highly versatile producer who has collaborated with artists from the likes of T.I and 2 Chainz to Skrillex and Diplo. Yet, “Gold” has taken him back to his Moombah roots, and the synergetic pairing with Paul proves to be nothing short of tremendous. “Gold,” the breezy, tropical-tinged, Moombahton dance cut anchored by Khan’s seamless production and Paul’s unmistakable vocal work has all of us shaking our hips. When asked about the experience of working with Paul, Khan spoke highly of him, exclaiming, “Sean is a true, true artist and an incredible talent.”

Regarding the production process, Khan reflected on their session in the Kingston-based studio, where he laid down a preliminary beat an hour before Paul’s arrival. From the moment Sean stepped into the studio, Khan remarked that things just clicked between the two of them and, “without notes or anything, just his shear talent, he laid it down.” Blown away by his artistry and professionalism, Khan exclaimed, “I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with such a legend, and I’m incredibly happy with the finished product.”

Valentino is currently playing a string of North American tour dates with Excision and NGHTMRE. He noted that ‘Gold’ has provided an excellent track to contrast his “heavier more, aggressive music with. Offering the opportunity to take the audience on a true journey.” The refreshing new cut will also be featured on the soundtrack to Major Lazer’s forthcoming documentary, Give Me Future. Major Lazer Presents: Give Me Future—Music From and Inspired by the Film features new and unreleased music from Major Lazer, Diplo and more.
