TIDAL Rising Artist of the Week: Half Waif

This week’s TIDAL Rising Artist of the Week is Half Waif, the Upstate New York project anchored by Nandi Rose Plunkett. The Half Waif project has consistently released deeply intimate songs with a tendency to marry folk melodies to rippling electronic orchestration. The union of these sounds complement Plunkett’s aptitude to persistently explore the unseen, but ever present influence of death, memory and self-perception.

Plunkett recently departed from the New Jersey-based indie rock group Pinegrove to fully focus on Half Waif and craft her next full-length, Lavender, out April 27th on Cascine. It’s a deep meditation on mortality written through her grandmother’s waning days and ultimately acts a cyclical reference to her own mortality and how her time is now framed.

On Wednesday, Plunkett takes us through the formative songs of her life when Half Waif began in 2012, and Friday will find Plunkett talking to TIDAL in-depth about her new album, the path it took to create it and how she took time to understand herself in the process.
