TIDAL Rising Artist of the Week: Meet Jacquees
Jacquees may have dropped his debut album 4275 earlier this month (June 15) but the 24-year-old singer hailing from Decatur, Georgia, has been singing since he won a talent show, performing the Jackson 5 classic “I Want You Back” at nine years old.
His swagger mixes the raw soulfulness of the ’90s with today’s smooth yet raunchy R&B vibes. Equal parts Jagged Edge meets Hoy Boyz meets the Temptations, ‘Quees inked a deal with Cash Money Records under Birdman’s tutelage. He’s also collaborated with a mixed bag of artists, including the aforementioned Jagged Edge, Wale, Trey Songz, Jagged Edge, Dej Loaf (they dropped the joint project Fuck a Friend Zone last August) and Chris Brown (with whom Jacquees is slated to drop a collaborative mixtape).
While Jacquees has been churning out melodic love notes since the days of MySpace, he first blew up when the Avant-sampling 2016 single “B.E.D.” (it interpolates the 2003 gem “Read Your Mind”) crept its way onto airwaves and timelines, notching upwards of 57 million views with its sultry video on YouTube. The remix also landed props from the likes of Ty Dolla $ign and Quavo.
While the endorsements continue to pour in from all corners of the music business, Jacquees’ mission statement is simple: stay focused and win more.
Stay tuned for the full interview with Jacquees later this week.
