TIDAL Rising Artist of the Week: Superorganism
Superorganism is a sprawling collective of musicians and pop culture junkies that met online and come together from all over the globe (UK, Japan, Australia and New Zealand), now living together in a house/studio in East London.
They made a huge splash last fall with the banger “Something For Your M.I.N.D,” earning lots of buzz for their refreshing and exciting flirtation with pop culture; past, present and future, that is.
Superorganism is praised as a kaleidoscopic riot of sound and visuals, and certainly got an eclectic approach where big-budget pop anthems meet a DIY attitude. Creative, energetic and fun, Superorganism will certainly make 2018 lots brighter.
Signed to legendary indie label Domino Records, their new single “Everybody Wants to Be Famous” debuted on BBC’s Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on January 2nd, while the highly anticipated debut album drops March 2nd. We are proud to introduce Superorganism as our first Rising Artist of the Week of 2018.
Who is Superorganism? Can you please introduce yourself?
Hey! We’re 8 friends who met on the internet and started making music art and videos by sending ideas over the internet to members living in different countries. We’ve now all congregated in a house in East London where we write, record, mix our records, and make our videos all under the same roof.
Tell us a little about your most recent release “Everybody Wants to Be Famous”. What do we get and what’s it about?
The internet gives everyone a chance to broadcast themselves and shoot for fame from their phones, it’s a dark world man. We’ve turned that into a fun pop jam though so it’s all good, don’t worry about it.
Who were your musical heroes growing up?
Kanye, Pavement and Miley Cyrus.
When and how did you first get into music?
All of us first got into music as little kids. Slap bass, double neck guitars, and dad playing Iggy Pop in the kitchen.
Name an album, artist or experience that changed your perspective on music?
Seeing the Chemical Brothers play live and the way they merged a music show with an intense visual and light show made us realize that music can be a multidimensional experience which can suck the audience into a different world.
What’s the best new song you recently discovered?
“Coming Back Around” by Tayla seems to have flown under the radar, but when B (backing vocalist/dancer in Superorganism) played it to us in the kitchen it became a unifying jam in our house.
Please share a fun fact about you or your music?
Soul – also a vocalist and dancer in Superorganism – can ride a bike backwards whilst vaping.
What’s your favorite activity besides music?
Lurking on social media and watching cool stuff.
What’s coming next for Superorganism?
We’re releasing our debut album, Superorganism, on March 2nd, and touring all through Europe, the US and even going out to Japan. Check out our dates cos we’ll probably be blowing minds near you soon!
Looking one year ahead, where would you like to see yourself?
On a Space X voyage to Mars, or at one of Diddy’s parties. Either/or is totally acceptable.
And finally, if your music was a animal what would it be? Please describe.
Whales are our spirit animal, so I gotta say we’d be a whale floating through space towards a party on Diddy’s private space station.
TIDAL is proud to announce the world's first music service with High Fidelity sound quality, High Definition music videos and expertly curated Editorial.
