TIDAL Rising: QUIÑ

TIDAL Rising: QUIÑ

Based out of that city of angels known as Los Angeles, QUIÑ is an up-and-coming electric R&B/soul artist who describes her own sonic aura as “Fantasy Soul.”

Drawing influence from such artists as Erykah Badu, St. Vincent, and Beyoncé, QUIÑ’s confidence is such that it radiates through her deliberately laid back tracks with an alluring effortlessness. If tracks like “LightSpeed” are any indication of what’s to come, we’re mighty excited for her debut EP, expected for release this fall.

Join us for a chat with QUIÑ about fantasy soul, singing in gospel choir’s and sounding like a giant volcanic island in space with an ocean in the sky and a sea of stars below.

Who is QUIÑ? Can you please introduce yourself?

QUIÑ is a singer songwriter from Los Angeles who makes what she calls, fantasy soul music.

Tell us a little about your upcoming debut EP. What do we get?

It’s called GALACTICA and it will give everyone a chance to dive into this universe that’s been revealing itself to me more and more as I write. It’s like a never ending story and this is the just the beginning chapter. You get to really understand what fantasy soul music can sound like amongst its infiniteness as you get to know me through my imagination.

Who were your musical heroes growing up?

Celine Dion, Brandy, Erykah Badu, Barbra Streisand and Chicago.

When and how did you first get into music?

I’ve been involved in music since the beginning of time. My dad always played the drums and the trumpet and I sang in church for All Saints children’s choir starting at 4. Once I grew out of that I sang in my high school gospel choir and from there began to face my fear of singing alone. Then I started making songs with friends and that’s led me to where I am now.

Name an album, artist or experience that changed your perspective on music?

My whole world grew after I left college and 100 percent met myself. I was 19 and I led myself to the realization that I have a mission to complete with the gifts I’ve been equipped with this whole time.

What’s the best new song or artist you recently discovered?

Just recently I discovered DVSN. “Too Deep” is a perfect song to me.

Can you share a fun fact about you or your music?

Here’s a fun fact about both me and my music: I was a painfully shy kid and I kept everything I loved to do to myself. I never thought I’d ever be sharing my mind through my voice and I beat all those fears up as I got to know myself more. It’s a process revealing yourself to yourself, and we all experience it in our own custom-made ways. So I change my mind up and decided to say yes every time I wanted to say no when it came to sharing my voice and ideas.

What’s your favorite activity besides music?

Doing anything with my sisters is my favorite activity.

What’s coming next for you?

Expect this never-ending story to be told from all different places of my imagination.

Looking one year ahead, where would you like to see yourself?

I see an even more experienced me traveling around spreading my love through my sounds.

And finally, if your music was a physical object what would it be? Please describe.

If my music was a physical object, it would be a giant volcanic island in space with an ocean in the sky and a sea of stars below.
